I know that it’s easy to criticize the system that we already have, BUT I think you’d find that if it were gone- you would miss it and may wonder why we ever got rid of it. The truth is, nothing is perfect. No matter what type of system we end up with, we all will end up paying in some form or another. The truth is- really- if you do just a little research- there are ways to get around having to pay for certain things. For example- if you know the manufacturer (pharmaceutical company) of a drug that you take on a regular basis, go to their website directly and see what they offer. Some offer a program for discounted or free drugs..
And, I do also realize that surgeries are expensive, but think about it- why are some of them expensive? Shouldn’t they be?!! Think about what’s really happening. They are opening up your body and fixing something that’s broken! Would you want a dr. with little experience or unhappy in his practice working on you?! Also think about the training that dr.’s go through to become doctors, shouldn’t they be paid for their expertise? I mean, don’t professional athletes get stupid amounts of money for what they do!? Seems messed up, doesn’t it??
Despite some of the insurance nightmares- I really believe that there are more good stories than bad. Americans have to start taking better care of themselves and then maybe we’d all spend alot less time in Dr.’s offices! There’s a start..
America is wonderful- I love it here.. I truly believe we are very fortunate to have all that we have- our freedom!- thanks to our history and some great leaders. Maybe we need to have 2 systems- those who want socialzed and those who don’t!
I’m not an expert, but I am an American, a mother, wife, sister, daughter, teacher- I don’t know it all, but I do whole-heartedly believe that this would be bad for us.
If implemented, it will initially seem great- until Dr.’s can’t find answers to questions about diseases/illnesses. The research is NECESSARY to provide the proper treatment. We will be able to do with the drugs we have right now for a little while, but what about in 2 years when the flu morphs into something crazy, or there’s a bug out there that becomes resistant to most antibiotic treatment- or other new diseases, then what?? We’re looking at a potential catastrophic situation.. because the funding for research and development went away.
Guess what else? Many Dr’s will leave their practices because they won’t be able to make money to support themselves. Then, as we’ve heard here- that will mean fewer Dr’s, difficulty getting appointments, let alone surgeries! Please, try to find the good in what we have- If healthcare is a big issue for you and your family- I mean having to see a Dr. more than on routine visits- there are people out there who can try to help you find what you need.
“As a Canadian who has experienced the US health care system, let me say there is no comparison between the two. I was shocked at the superior efficiency and quality of the US system while I worked on contract in the midwest some years ago.Canada is light years behind in my opinion. ” Ken- Canada
“I had a friend who fell and broke her back. She was held on a cot in the hall outside the Nanaimo, BC emergency room for 8 days before she got to see a doctor” Coralee- Canada
“While working in Toronto a few years back,I became ill. I tried getting an appointment with a doctor, with no luck.I tried getting into an emergency room. That was even harder. I had to fly back to Kansas to be treated. What does that say about their med system?” ~KC- Kansas
“I needed to go to the hospital in Italy. They didn’t asked me for a dime. But the hospital was not clean. Not sterile. The equipment was old, over used, and out dated. They were not sure how to treat what was wrong with me, So i told them how. Because i got the information on the internet Mayo clinic site. They gave me the wrong medicine the first time until i went back to correct them and recieved the correct medication, in the lapse time I was got sicker and with Pain..
My Italian cousin was in for surgery to have a section of his bowl removed. The reconnection leaked and It took them too long to find out it was leaking and he died from the infection. If you get sick out of the U.S. fly home immeditally for medical care.” ~ Sylvia- CA
“As a Canadian citizen who has suffered under socialized medicine – and also someone who saw one of Moore’s first hack schlockumentaries, Roger and Me (which would have done Joseph Goebbels good) – I am aghast that anyone would watch another Moore schtick. Notwithstanding his previous movies, where he claimed that Canadians don’t need to lock their doors at night (would that we could go door to door in any Canadian city, and bet $1,000 per door on that one!), the Canadian medical system is an utter shambles. I have MULTIPLE personal horror stories in the Canadian system that would NEVER occur in the USA. And if fact, the average care is what the uninsured get in the US. Forget the fact that I lost a wife to a brain tumour that was “missed” due to the lack of funds in the system; forget the fact that a wonderful mother in law went through the same thing with bone cancer. The best example is where, when we moved to Chicago, my second wife, who has breast cancer in her family, was found with a lump in her breast. From the time it was found, removed and given a clean bill of health, it was about 30 HOURS. We have a friend in Ottawa who is the same age, and had the same problem. From the time it was first discovered, to the time it took to get a lumpectomy, and have this assayed, was THREE MONTHS. Thankfully, both women had benign lumps – but imagine what this would have been like if both were malignant.
Millionaire, Haliburton-stock-owning Michael Moore (see Do As I Say, Not as I Do, Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy by Peter Schweizer) should really give all his money to the poor and move to Cuba if he has any intellectual integrity. ”
